Pend Oreille Fishing?
« on: March 30, 2011, 02:55:33 PM »
I mentioned this elsewhere, but has anyone been getting the Bass to bite yet?  I have a serious case of fishing fever!  Have gone several times, but with minimal success.  My opinion is that it is still too cold, but wondered if any of you are having success?

I fish both the river and the lake.  Idaho and Washington.  I have honey-holes on both.  Mostly Smallmouth, but in the spring it is Largemouth and Pike too.

37 guys fished a pike tournament there on Saturday and nobody caught a single bass, though we were all targetting the pike...some of the techniques are relatively similar...senkos , slow moving rapalas super slow rolling spinners, using swimbaits and even some jig and pig...but no bass... though i know of some good 28 foot holes in the river with boulders that I marked fish on...which I am guessing were smallies...a dropshot would have been my choice there ....tried a few casts with a crawdad crankbait just to see if any were hugging the rocks but all i got was some dumb 16 inch brown trout...which I promptly tossed back..... water temps were between 37-42 degrees depending on depth ...sloughs were froze up but were thawing fast and my guess is that in a week they will be gone.... I would say wait a week then go pike fishing  and try for some bass along the way...have fun

Thanks!  Was just hoping that maybe they were starting.  It has been a long winter.  :bash: I hope you did well on the PIke tourney.

Im planning on turkey hunting in the mornings and evenings but pike fishing mid day! Couple weeks away i cant wait! My mom was shoveling snow off of our dock on the river this winter and had a pike grab the snow she was throwing in the water!
Aim small, miss small.
