Reloading for 7mm rem mag

I've done some reading and have talked to tons of people about reloading for the 7mm and was told that compared to factory rounds it would be about the same as reloading, but reloading would give a little more. I'm now shooting the 175grains fusion rounds from federal and at 400yds. I got 2120 fps and 1750 ft-lbs, So can I get the 175's to go faster by reloading and how much more. Not interesting in shooting anything with the poloymer tip or plastic, just the jacketed soft point.

You won't beat factory velocities by any significant amount, but you could better the accuracy. That's the advantage to reloading. You won't save any money either, in fact you'll probably end up spending more, but you'll also shoot more. I think if you're wanting to improve on ballistics, you ought to consider using a different bullet, one with a higher ballistic coefficient. Why is it you don't like the plastic tips? The 160 grain Accubond would do slightly better at 400 and 500 yards than the bullet you're shooting.

My factory loads are pretty accurate and I don't think I could get a tighter group than I got. I was just wondering and now know that it ain't worth buying the reloading stuff for it. Thanks bobcat

Alright. Thanks catwithboost I appreciate it. Just looking to maximize my accurcy out at 400, 500 and 600 yards. My rilfe has a burris ballistic plex scope on it. No hold over and no guess work. I like being able to shoot tight groups at those yards. I'm confident with the shells I got, but wanted to see if i can get tighter groups at those ranges.

I shot and reloaded for the 7mm mag for 20 years. I never chronoed a reload that got within about 400fps of what the manual said, I chronoed some factory and never got within 200fps of what the box or magazine said. My favorite load with a 160 grain bullet was listed in the manual at over 3000 fps, I 'think' I remember it was listed at about 3150fps, the chrono said it went a little over 2800fps, I was real bummed.
Matching factory ammo is really hard as many factories use powders and blends that we can't buy.

When reloading for any gun/cal you have the ability to really customize your round (bullet, brass, powder, etc) to maximize your gun's potential.  It's possible that you may be able to increase your velocities as well as accuracy.  My buddy's gun shoots considerably faster (on the chrono) than the manuals say.... I believe he's shootin the 160 A-Frame around 3200. 

To a large degree being able to shoot a better quality bullet is also a big reason I reload.  I personally feel that the bullets we have today are so much better than what was available even 10 or 15 years ago that it's not even close.  Based on you desire to shoot at the ranges you stated it'd probably be advantageous to shoot the best quality bullet you can in order to maximize not only accuracy but terminal performance. 

If most your shooting is 300 and under ya may wanna just stick with what ya got.  I've never used that ammo and I don't really know anything about it.... but, sounds like it shoots pretty well out of your gun.

It does pretty good, But the drop is -13.2 at 300 hundred yards, just wondering if reloading would bring my drop up or not. Where I'm hunting 400 to 600 yards shots may be the only ones I get. I like the heavier wieght bullet. I've heard good reviews on the fusion ammo and they are the fastest on the market as factory rounds and has the knocked power out there as well. 400 yards they are at 1750 ft-lbs and 2120 fps. Which to me is pretty good, for decent priced ammo. Don't have the stuff to reload and wanted some opions on it. Thanks guys for your input. I'll probably stay with these and see how they do.
