Cowlitz River DB Concerns
« on: April 11, 2011, 05:53:15 PM »
I'm thinking about drifting the Cowlitz for my first time. I thought maybe the best drift would be from Blue Creek down to Mission Bar. From what I can tell it is the most productive stretch of water. Are there any real tricky areas on the river?

With the river running at 11,700 right now you should be fine.  The waters is just going to be going really fast.  :chuckle:

Its never a good idea to run a unknown stretch of river for the first time by yourself. :twocents:

the cowlitz is nothing! IMO! The ONLY concern you should have will be the jet boats.. Do not anchor up in there travel path, or the guides will be pissy..
Work sucks!!!! I should be shed hunting

Even going right at that level shouldn't be a problem. Fish will STACK on soft edges in there. :twocents:

Thanks everyone. You are all right. It was a very easy. Especially running at 10,400. the total drift if I didn't stop would have only taken just over 2 hours. River was fast. It was a slow day. Didn't see any fish caught. Long trip from Snohomish. It was a beautiful day though.

D Rock 425 those were 4 man rafts ,that size is perfect for one man ,gear, and rods. They are about 9 ft. long. Best not to go it alone and stay off to the sides. Late spring and summer it;s a blast.
