well, i have a vizsla..... he is an amazing dog with an amazing nose.... obviously i cant work with him 3 to 5 times a week with real birds.... so....... how do you work with your dog, in a fun-game-like setting (from the dogs perspective) on a regular basis? ive been chucking various bird dummys with scents into random bushes afield, and he finds them just fine, (except for waterfoul dummys in the lake... he will chase bugs flying on the surface for hours).... ive been thinking about putting tennis balls in zip-lock bags with bird scents and using one of those chuck-it ballthowers and just associating fetch with something that smells like a pheseant..... even though its just a tennis ball... i screamed too hard last year to re-learn everything this year
what do you guys do to keep your dog "on his toes" durring the off-season?
