Almost was trampled by a bull elk
« on: April 18, 2011, 02:37:18 PM »
Out turkey hunting and a bull in velvet with eye guards almost ran over me. He was coming off of a field and the wind was at his back.
Came just a few feet from stepping on my feet. I was sitting under a tree. Once past me, he smelled me and headed for the tall uncut.
I saw several hundred head of elk in the 3 days I was hunting.
Lots of deer too. One herd had about 30 head. Looked like they were sheding some of their winter coat.
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

Very cool. What did you say those coordinates were?

It is a spike only area, so you have to put in for a permit.  The elk go back into the mountains once calving is over.
If you go over to the turkey forum and look at the hen post, there is picture of one band. I could have pointed the camera in almost any direction and got the same result.
