Terrible Weekend. Anyone With A Better Outcome?
« on: April 18, 2011, 04:01:08 PM »
I am sure tons have filled their tag/tags. I had one lousy shot at a tom Saturday night on the way back down the mountian after all day of hearing hardly anything from these birds. Then sunday afternoon (i was not going to go out all all as this is my second year of hunting these damn birds and not getting anything) we go out and here NOTHING in our blind. Decide to go out to some public land and not even 10 yards away from the jeep we let a yelp out and there is a gobbler right on top of us on the hill side. . . .we waited a bit and he came strutting right at us! I was so pumped but I didnt have a good shot because of a bush. . .once he got in a good spot for me to pull the trigger he moved. Damn thing I missed (I know you all are saying yeah. . I have had a few birds move on me but really. . .He would have been done). SO as he ran off he stopped and looked to see if I was chasing him and sure as *censored* I was took another shot TOTALLy missed and missed a third time when he stopped again to look back at the top of this hill. . . .I was so dog gone tired once I got to the top I couldnt see straight. . . .Anyone have better Luck?   :bash:

Doesn't sound like too "terrible of a weekend" to me!  Sounds like quite a bit of action.

At least you had the chance to spend the weekend out hunting.  I just wished I'd have had the chance to do the same, instead of being held up on the couch sicker than hell.

I would add that at least you had something to shoot at. Stupid birds.

Hey that sounds about like my weekend. A few missed shots with archery tackle on day 1 and 2. Then picked up the shotgun on day three, only to miss another. I've been covered up in birds, but no kill yet.

TI2K,

That was exciting!  I am at least glad we could get on the darn thing after a day of almost complete silence.  These birds were hammering on the roost yesterday morning, but nothing after they hit the ground.  Glad we stopped there, otherwise it really would have sucked not seeing or shooting at anything.  Of my years turkey hunting, that was the most exciting set up I have been on, even though you didn't get him, that was fun.  We still got plenty of time to get you one.

I will admit that it was a tough start, but my dad and I finally filled the tags. Got a double this morning to polish of the season. Will get pics  up later.

The great memories are usually about the hunt no the kill. I put more miles (and feet in elevation) this year then ever before and though I did fill one tag the hunts were memorable. I hunted for three seasons before taking my first turkey. The key is keeping at it and enjoy what comes your way. A good day in the field with friends and family really are what make it worth going out for. If all you want is to shoot something got to the range, if all you want is a turkey go to the store. If you want memories that last FOREVER, try to outsmart a dumb bird  :chuckle:.

Keep at it you will get yours!

we had a good weekend in the bush, the birds were very silent and we didn't fill our tags. however I did pull a tick off my own neck, another off my chest a few hours later, and then found a black widow in my gear.

aside from that, I got so much sun that my face is actually a little burned lol.

Yeah I didn't believe it was a black widow at first. someone else told me it was. I was like, naaa... then got home and looked it up.. .and without a shadow of a doubt, BW.

indeed. I used a cardboard backer from a lure to scoop him out of my tackle and fling him across the dock. just in case. I was pretty careful.
