need advice on redfield revolution!!!
« on: April 18, 2011, 05:34:19 PM »
ok ive made my choice on which scope im gonna get its the 4-12x redfield but i cannot make up my mind on which reticle to got with? either their accu-range(bdc) or duplex and buy the aftermarket upper turret for shooting long range? its goin on a 7mm rem mag i can also add the turret to the bdc reticle but wondering if it may be to busy with their style bdc? or should i just hope that the bdc is pretty close to my rifle?

Elmer- I picked up the 4-12 with the BDC a week ago great scope for the $$. The BDC isn't really a BDC like on the Nikon or Leupolds, it has a single dot under the standard reticle so it's not real busy. Either scope should be fine with the dial. Hope that helps

i've got the nikon with bdc for my 300rum and it work pretty good, i have used it with the bdc for three or four years now, but i just switch to the target knobs and going to give it a try, just have to have the rangefinder handy now.

i just want to dial to whatever range and hit, but don't get me wrong the bdc has worked in the past it just takes lots of shooting  :twocents:

Those generic BDC reticle scopes work in inches of drop...they're not caliber or rifle specific.
My Vortex works, properly only at 12x magnification, in inches of drop...the first dot is -3.5", the 2nd is -7", etc. So you need to shoot a drop chart then use the dots accordingly(and approximately). They work well to a degree but they are not entirely precise. I think for long ranges(+300 yards) the BDC is a good way to go, but you gotta figure out your drop chart and use it properly. Hopefully that makes sense. It's not a rifle or caliber specific. It's just as simple as it sounds...if your gun shoots 3.5" low of -0- at 350 yards, aim with the 1st dot and so on and so forth. You just got to make the main crosshair dead zero at a certain yardage and go from there with the dots.

yeah im just trying to figure out either go with bdc or turrets and scrib the marks in it for ranges either way lots of shooting! im tryin to get it all setup to 600yds! the only issue im having with the redfield accu range reticle is everyone with a mag is having to sight in it at 300yds for the reticles to work? seems like it would be pretty high at 100! and redfields site say for guns with 35-45" of drop at 500 or 600yds thats 10" of variance then!
