Turkey down, wing mount?
« on: April 18, 2011, 09:44:58 AM »
Took me six years to get turkey number two. Everything came together and I got this guy on the Saturday.

I have a question for you guys. I am interested in mounting up the wings too I was wondering if any of you guys have done this, and if you have tips for removing the little meat and fatty tissue that remains?

Thanks and Happy Hunting

Try putting ample amount of borax and salt on the meaty part and that should do the trick. I have done it with pheasant wings and grouse wings and it worked just fine.

I dunno about mounting but. Many congrats on your 2nd bird! Way to be persistent. That's awesome. That terrain looks like the stuff I was walking this past saturday as well. Mountain birds... nice!

you want to remove all the meat in there, on a turkey the wings are big, you will have 3 parts under the wing that you are going to have to make a cut in and remove it all, then borax it... Sew it back up. There is no other way you do not make those cuts and remove that meat. It is going to stink it is going to rot on you and it will attract bugs. Sorry, but that is the only way.

.....and do not put salt on them at all.  Salt will draw out the moisture but when it rains it is going to draw in moisture which will cause them to rot.  Only use Borax.

forester, now that you have all the meat out, you will need to wash and dry the wings, then wire them so they will stay in the postition you want, then groom them.  John
