Winthrop area Whitetail ?

Winthrop area. I am talking about all the units up there that have a whitetail buck hunt in Nov. I am sure some units are better then others.

During the November Permit hunt are there good numbers of whitetail deer on public land, or are
a lot of the deer down low on Private property? I had a special permit up in the Chilwist unit in 2002 and don't remember seeing any whitetails during my hunt. Are there more whitetails in the area now days?

Less wtails in the Chiliwist that when you had your tag, and probably about the same numbers in the Methow as when you had your tag also.  Most still seem to reside in the lower "private for the most part" elevations.

seen lots down low by the rivers. Almost all private.

see a few in the chiliwist and more the a few along the methow river and twisp river but mostly private fields....my sister had a tag last year didnt luck out learned alot though definitly didnt see as many whitetails as you wanna but you only need one right.

Way fewer in the CHiliwist than years past.  As stated, mostly on private unless you know where there is one from scouting.  There are a few scattered in "not so normal" locations.  Better either scout lots or have serious local knowledge.

I drew this tag last year.  If wdfw were to start the season on the 20th and extend it into December the rut would be on for the whitty's.  Saw very few whitetails (6 doe, 1 buck in early scout) and hundreds of muley's...two big whitty's I saw taken were big...all taken on private.  This area seems to get hit hard and the locals tend not to welcom the "hunter" with big smiles.  Somewhat friendly but not a chance for permission.  Didn't knock on ton's of doors but how can you knock when you don't see deer?

I drew this tag on accident.  Thinking it was a muley tag.  Be prepared for a trip full of frusteration and pain.  It's a fabulous tag if you live in the area and have the time to prepare and have connections.  Big whitty bucks come out of this area.  If you enjoy seeing the muley migration and making good soup than your tag won't taste so bad.

Department land in winthrop just west of town has some monster whitetail and if you dont mind walking they are there ...seen monsters .......

Not sure about the late season but I saw tons of whitetail on the early archery hunt and bagged a decent 5X3.
