You would shoot as many as you could if you have seen coyotes running out of the corn with Hen phesant in thier mouths. "Clean" farming makes it much easier for them to put a hurt on the game population.

I've shot my share of pups over the years, but I prefer hunting them in the fall when they're bigger.  The ranchers in my area don't have the problem with coyotes with the fall calvers (September and October),simply because it's still warm.  The mid January to mid March calvers have a harder time, but by that time we've got alot of them thinned out.  The hardest thing on pheasants around here is the wet cold springs.  That takes its biggest toll on the population.  Then it's the Hawks, Eagles, and Ravens, then the coyotes.  This spring the rodents are so bad around here the coyotes don't have to do much work to get a full meal for themselves and their pups.  Besides those rodents have hammered my winter wheat.  I'll let them kill off some rodents, then I'll kill off some yotes.

I wouldn't kill the pups.  I also give the adults a break this time of year- thinking of those starving pups is a sickening feeling for me.  I'm pretty hard on coyotes, but I'm no good at orphaning or killing pups.

If the goal is predator control, it is very effective this time of year.

I think I'm in the same boat as most folks on here. I never hesitate to let the lead fly on an adult 'yote but couldn't bring myself to harm the little ones. No sport in it anyway....wait till they get older and develop into something a little more worthy of my effort.

To some of us....it ain't about sport.  It is no sport.  To me it's like having a fly swatter.  Some may enjoy the act of killing flies, to some of us it's about a bigger picture.  There is no sport is killing stray cats at the local vet clinic but it still is done.

This is this weekends tribute to coyote blood lust! I wish i could say it was mine, but it was my cousins... Runswithbeer... We were doing a little thinning on the farm this weekend and decided this pup needed a dirt nap. Are they smart? Adults, yes! That's why its better to snuff em out now! My bro in law has been seeing less Pheasants on the farm and more quail each year... I whack every legal predator every chance i get so that i can have a good hunt with my old man and try to preserve good hunting for my bro in laws sons and my daughter, that will old enough for some bird hunting in a few years. There are so many Coyotes in the Basin i don't think you could affect the population even if you could kill every yote you saw.... too many dead cows laying around.

If I can continually get this close with a camera, it doesn't leave much for excitement with a weapon, I'll wait till fall.
