Tonasket Cougar
« on: May 24, 2011, 11:33:37 AM »
So, my buddy bought about 360+ acres outside of Tonasket off Havillah road facing Mt. Phoebe. The terrain runs uphill north south and flattens up at the top. Its been logged slightly but there is still a good share of trees. There is no agriculture on the land however. I walked it this weekend and found some nice draws and such. Also saw a black bear, quail, blue grouse, and a bunch on deer droppings. However my partner and I are looking to bag a cougar. Has any one got a cougar in the area? Curious to hear about your hunt. Curious about the local white tails too... Thanks! -Ben

There are cats up there but the indians run that side pretty hard with hounds but I'm not sure if they are still able to run with the no law now :dunno:

the new law changes nothing for them, they are still leagal to run up the the canadian border pretty much. i know a handfull of guys that run bears and cats but they dont really run off rez because they dont need to. why drive when there are plenty closer to home. the guys i know are prety selective on what they shoot to so they leave the vast majority to run another day. And to answer your question, yes there are a fair share of cats around Tonasket

We have property most likely within 10 miles of where you are talking about and I have family in Chesaw. There are cats there and bears as well. Plenty of deer and lots of folks (mostly from the west side unfortunately) that cannot read, and still assume that unless they have been told three or four times, all land is open to hunting because somebody somewhere told them it was OK :bash:. All in all a great area to recreate, long drive for sure, but always worth it  :IBCOOL:. Enjoy it and be the best friend to that guy you can :chuckle:.

There are also a TON of coyotes up there :mgun2:, we see several off the Havillah Rd most trips to Chesaw to visit the fam.
