Changes to the WWPHA

Well, it is OFFICIAL..  We have changed our name and our status.  We are now the WASHINGTON PREDATOR HUNTING ASSOCIATION and have licensed ourselves as a non-profit Association.  We had been receiving requests from the dry side so after we were able to change the name registrations, here we are. We will be looking for a member to facilitate some of the East side activities and we will be holding gatherings in the central state area.  Although our old web site is still up and running (http://wwpha.com/), we have launched our new site at http://washingtonpredatorhuntingassociation.com/  It was released on 6/1 so there currently is very limited posts as we decided not to transfer the old posts.  The new site is a dual action site.  It is accessible for every one to use this time (once you register) but certain segments are still Membership specific (got to be some part that way  )  We are still actively seeking memberships and continue to have informative meetings with guest speakers and exciting events.  Likewise, we have developed a good working relationship with the WDFW and we have been working close with each other. Watch for future posts for the July meeting at Cabela's.

Upcoming events:  June 4/5: Members BBQ at Friends Landing, July 9: Meeting at Cabela's (?), August: Egg Shoot / Meeting, January 14th 2012: Predator expo at / with Cabela's, January 2012: First Annual Washington Coyote Classic

I will admit that we are just now branching our reach out to the east side as we have focused here on the west for over a year now and have developed a pretty good group.  What we need is some east side folks that are really into predator hunting to get involved so it will facilitate the east side folks better.

I will be the first to admit that I know very little about the east side and for that matter, have only been in Washington for a few years.  That does not make it any less of a desire to make our sport that much better.

Yes, it is pretty dead right now as it is really not the correct time of the year to be out chasing yotes as it still is the dening season and we do want them to raise future hunting opportunities don't we? 

We are planing out next meeting which is July 9th at Cabela's in Lacey but want to hold some out more toward the central state once we get a member base from that area.  Right now, we have to cater towards the majority. 

Also, in late January or early February, we will be hosting the first annual Washington Coyote Classic.  A two day / 2 man event.  This will be based somewhere in central WA but I will need help designating a location..

OK, I will shut up for now but will continue to push for the success of this adventure... any help would be greatly appreciated..

I'd have to say, as little as you say you know about the East side, I can sure make a safe bet that I know even LESS about the West Side!

I see folks, who are from towns I've never heard of, and have no idea of the location.
As to having "Desire", I know of a few folks over here, that will give anyone over there a run for their money when it comes to the love of hunting predators! No worries in THAT department.   

Although I can't think of any one thing that a "Membership" might help with, when it comes to Predator Hunting over here....its crowded enough, and I'm not ready to share "MY" spots.   

Good information is always Good though!

I know a lot about both sides of the state. Lived in hell (westside) for 46 years and moved to the eastside 11 years ago. Everybody join Washington for Wildlife and I'll join WWPHA. That's a fair deal.

We have 1 member that is our spokesman with the WDFW.  We have become recognized by them as an official association and respect our in put and desires.  What Ryan is saying is that numbers will also add strength to our quests to strengthen our voice with the WDFW.  At meetings, we forward to our spokesman what we want checked out and he does.  Hence, a good working relationship has developed.
It is not all about hunting, but protecting what we have and enhancing what we can.

But the hunting partner is also good when the opportunity arrives..

They've done quite a bit for wildlife in this area, most likely more than anyone in the State.
Use to be a member, but its just too far to drive these days, especially in the winter.

Not sure if you saw it or not Rick, but at the last meeting Miranda Wecker brought up night hunting again and it will be discussed in the next three year cycle.

The tribes want an exception so they can hunt bears and cougars at night.

The tribes want an exception from who ? We can't hunt on their land so they shouldn't get special privledges from the WDFW.
