My first special permit ever is for archery upper smith creek. The hunt is during mid october. Are the bulls still rutting by then? A muzzle loader hunting friend of mine says he has heard bulls bugle during his early muzzle loader season...........

greg...... did you guys tag one? were they still talking? i have heard of some decent bulls in there but have never talked to anyone who has actually hunted it. i have hunted the boundry and the hills were screaming but that was early sept. i'm not concerned with getting out as much as if there will be much action that late.

The bulls were quiet but still responding to cow calls. We got a very nice 307 6X6 at 35 yards. That unit is awesome ,use the creek beds to get close because theres not alot of cover. The best help I can give you is get some good knee pads and stay low.Ill try to get some pics for you.The unit is like a desert with no sage . If you set up a couple elk decoys they will come to you .The wind is the same all the time it goes down the mountain till about 930 than starts up.Great hunt
