Elk area ?
« on: June 16, 2011, 03:46:35 PM »
Can anyone explain the difference between elk area 1010, 1011, 1012, and 1016 to me? I read the area descriptions at the back of the regs but it seems like I might have read it too many times that now I'm kind of confused lol.

Any help would be appreciated.

go to WDFW website and follow links to GoHunt.  You can get a map of the areas and you can put whatever layers you want over the top (roads, waterways, GMU's, public land, etc)

elk area 1016= gmu 162 except rainwater wildlife refuge
elk area 1010= gmu 162 except rainwater and USFS
elk area 1011= gmu 162 east of north touchet rd except USFS
elk area 1012= gmu 162 west of north touchet rd except USFS
or 1011+1012=1010
1010+USFS=1016
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

Depending on how zoomed in you are, you can change between DOT and DNR roads at different resolutions.  you can also click the info in upper left corner and click the 'i' next to Elk areas and it will pull up legal descriptions and a "map" that you can print out of that area with most of the features like roads on the map.

So is there a difference between USFS and the National Forest or are they the same?

I can't access the gohunt website right now. Is it just me? :dunno:

Probably 400 people logged in to try it out when I started talking about it.

Okay so I got:

1010=all of gmu 162 but not including national forest and the rainwater wildlife area=mostly private lands or state lands(public lands) only

1011=the area east of the North Touchet rd and not including national forest=private lands or state lands(public lands) only

1012=the area west of the North touchet rd and not including national forest=private lands or state lands(public lands) only

1016=all of gmu 162 but not including the rainwater wildlife area=national forest, private lands and state lands(public lands) are all part of elk area 1016

This is what I figured now. Hope it is right.

Any thoughts?
