Joel Turner on American Archer TV today
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:19:24 PM »
Good stuff... Joel Turner is on American Archer today calling for Tom ?( I don't know his last name) in New Mexico. It aired at 11am today, I got it on my DVR. I learned a lot from that guy in person this past winter.
He's an amazing elk caller.

Is the video any good for learning elk calling techniques or is it just a hunting video?

Saw that episode too.  He did a seminar last year at a friend's house.  It was amazing, not just the calling, but also elk behavior tips he shared.  I had tried to use diaphram calls may times through the years.  After Joel's tips, I was finally successful in using diaphram calls last season!

He was a lot of fun at the Rainier RMEF banquet this year. It's funny when he describes bulls and their rut behavior like horny old men

Speaking of good videos...not only did I watch Joel's "Lethal Release", but I've been "studying" all my DVD's from Elknut that arrived last week with my new bugle, elk hunting Playbook, two diaphram calls...an entire package of learning about elk behavior and how to kill 'em.

GREAT, great stuff!!  Even took the "Playbook" with me on a scouting trip this past weekend and was studying in my paratipi on a windy mountain side before going to sleep.  Awesome.  I am gaining SO much more confidence about how to call and how to hunt them.  I've always been a learn on my own kind of guy and since I finally drew my first bull tag this year, I am really thankful for guys like Joel and Paul (elknut) to teach a guy like me how it supposed to be done, and I actually feel that come Sept, I will actually be prepared to give it my very best.

I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood. Thanks for the kind words fellas.  If anyone needs anything in the elk hunting realm, let me know.  I am always interested in letting people know what I have learned from the mighty wapiti.  I am getting together a seminar schedule, but so far I have:  July 23 Broken Arrow Archery, Milwaukee OR., July 30 Bass Pro Shops, Denver CO, August 6, Bass Pro Shops, Mesa AZ, August 13th Rainier Archery, Graham WA, August 20 High Mt. Hunting Supply, Wenatchee.  If anyone wants a private seminar, those are available as well.  PM me if you need my phone number or email for questions.  I will do my best to give you a no B.S. answer, and if I don't know it, I will get the info for you.

Live every moment,

JT
