Blue Mtns. West Buck Deer Draw
« on: June 18, 2011, 02:20:26 PM »
My buddy and I went in as a group and drew the Blue Mountains West Buck Deer hunt.  I live in Ellensburg and haven't really spent much time in that part of the state.  Anyone have any information regarding this hunt, the area, and some places to begin preparing for when we hunt in November?  Any information would be awesome, thanks guys.

There are some great deer in there. Just spend some time doing the normal stuff like scouting and you should be able to find a nice one.

What unit do you want to hunt, what are your goals as far as deer go and the hunt goes and how many points did you draw with? You took my permit darnit.
In other words...what kind of hunting do you like to do?
Road hunt, sit in a blind, spot and stalk, etc.

Hey sorry guys I was without a computer for about a week so I just got all of your posts..

Jackelope - this was actually our first year putting in for special permits (I've always been primarily waterfowl until last year, and he is from Alaska) so we ended up drawing that hunt with only 2 points.. I know both he and I are primarily spot and stalk hunters, but a blind is always an option to keep open.  I don't know the area all too well so I'll have to sit down and talk to my buddy when he gets back from AK to see where we want to go.. we both play football at CWU so weekend hunting is really our only option (luckily this draw comes right at the end of the regular season for us where we could potentially have a bye-week).  Sorry for taking your permit!!

You are lucky dog sir. Lots of public/FFTH land, get a map and make a weekender getting a feel for it, some darn respectable deer get killed with that permit.

Is it "tag envy"??

No...it's not a quality tag...it's a buck deer tag. I was fresh out of quality points. Had what I thought were plenty of buck deer permit points to get it. Glad I didn't put in for that Palouse permit....I would have got that and never got one of the coveted foothills permits.
