Hawaii fishing on upcoming vacation
« on: June 23, 2011, 09:58:33 AM »
Hi everyone.  I know I haven't posted much on the forum, but have been reading everyday what others around the state are up to.  I have a couple of questions I hope some will reply to.  My wife and i are planning a vacation next summer to Oahu and I plan/hope to get in at least a day of fishing.  I have no deffinate goals other than to catch fish I may never have a chance at again.  That and just hope to get in on action.  Any species from say 40 pounds on up would be great, but of course it would be super to land that marlin, sailfish, or other dominate fish.
Can anyone give advise, opinions, observations on the charters, guides there?  Any assist would be greatly appreciated.

There's a forum called Bloody Decks.  I know they had a section about Hawaii fishing.  Didn't hang out in that section (was interested with the San Diego stuff at the time) but you can take a look and see if it helps.

Longknife, when will you be going or have you even set dates yet?  We are shooting for June.  Mahi Mahi, and yes, a marlin woul be great too.  Heck, I'd even have a blast with sharks taking the hooks.  If you want we can exchange info to help each out.

Sumpn, is bloody decks related to this site or another?

It's its own site.  http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/

It's mostly fishing related, there is some hunting but it's localized to socal.

I went to the charter websites and looked at all the fishing reports and pictures.  You can use them to get information on what fish is likely to be in large numbers in that area at that time...and which boats seem better at finding them.  For example, the large schools of tuna migrate back and forth up the islands.  Eventhough you may find tuna at anytime, certain months will have them in huge schools.
