CZ 550 Varmint Kevlar
« on: June 24, 2011, 07:21:35 PM »
I have a CZ 550 Varmint Kevlar in .308 and was wondering if anyone has that same rifle and can suggest good ammo for deer/elk hunting?

not many guys on here will have that particular rifle(as fine as it is)but they will be able to suggest a good ammo for you.

yours has a 1:12 twist so anything up to 170 grains should be good for accuracy. You'll probably want something bonded as well.

how bout a nosler partition..... or swift A frame.  I'm not a fan of lead free bullets. even though barns was making them before the anti's started pushing for them(taking away our freedom one nibble at a time) i feel that it aids the anti's cause so i'm a fan of lead and lots of it.

I dunno how much experience you have, but i would love to hear a review and range report of your cz. I think it's nice to open up american hunters to the various fantastic rifles from abroad.

if you search the forum i'm sure there will be a topic based on "which weight of bullet for 308" to further your reading.

I'm not much of a rifle shooter and I bought the rifle back in 08' with the intention of hunting then next year and never got around to it until this year, a co worker of mine is taking me to Dayton for my first hunt. As far as the range the only rounds that I've put through it were 147 grain surplus ammo and was shooting high right with it so I'm thinking it's my marksmanship fundamentals that are off.

missing the bullseye at the range is alright as long as your grouping well. once you get hunting ammo(which will probably shoot nicer than the surplus) you will need to shoot it and adjust for where it hits.

Here is fresh thread.
