lewis river scouting a bust
« on: July 10, 2011, 10:17:35 PM »
I drew the lewis river sept bull with a rifle so my cousin and I headed up high to look aroun and much to our suprise we couldn't get up past about 4000 ft with the horses! We were able to glass sa small group of elk from a couple miles away. I just can't belive how deep the snow drifts are for this late in the year. Hope it melts soon so I can get up high. Can't wait till sept!

We were up there this weekend around horseshoe lake. The roads were clear to the lake but there was alot of snow back in the wooded areas and on the hikeing trails. Keenas horse camp was clear and accesable. We were able to drive to the Yakima res boundry on the 5603 road. We spotted a small group of cows and calfs and a small bull and a brute at a lower elevation.

Way too cool at night also.Have a feeling that snow is going to be around longer than most people think.

The woods better not be that dry.  I tried getting to the Lewis River by taking the 25rd and it was closed 2 weeks ago.  Is it open now or did you go a different way?

You should be able to tag a bull over 300" as long as you put in some effort and can hold out.  I've seen some big bulls in that unit.  Almost put an arrow through a 320ish bull 4 years ago. Darn wind:)

I was up there Saturday and saw very little fresh elk sign and lots of snow from 3600+.
