Dan Agnew buys the Governer's tag every year.  Each year he has purchased it the price was right around $60-65,000 give or take.  He also is given the name of a "guide" in the Blue's who knows where the 400" bulls are and immediately calls that guy.  This guy charges Dan about $40,000 to take him out 1 time before the season and show him the bull and give him 2 "callers/packers" to help with the hunt.  So, if you want this Gov. tag, you better have a deep pocket book.

So many things about your statement are wrong!  You have any facts to back up what you have claimed?

He didn't buy it in '09 and he didn't buy it this year.
In 2008 Mr. Agnew bought it for $65k. In 2009 the guy from Oregon bought it for $44k.
I can't find the $$ amount for the 2010 permit or the 2011 one.
True...But, i heard a local guy from here in walla walla bought it in 09.  This year i heard that somebody from Team Mossback bought the tag.  But thats just my  :twocents:

Each one of the callers and packers must drive like 3 pick-ups then... maybe 4 cause the year he killed the 440's bull that's how many were parked above it.

I heard the same thing, but I also heard rumor that a local would be the guide. I'm sure I'll know by the end of august.

It's kind of a bummer that two guys in our camp will most likely have to compete with a group of guys packing a rifle in September. Oh well, don't need 400+ bulls to be an awesome hunt. It'll be fun no matter what.

Charlie, I'll be up there a lot in september get ahold of me. Might need your caping skills :)

Josh told me  it was a guy from E. Oregon. The only pics he had were live still footage, if I remember it was around 420+.  Its amazing the info that can be shared with a 1/2 gallon of Pendleton involved....

Jake, the pard and I will be spending some weekends down there too, starting later in the month, as he has that tag. see ya down there.

If I had the money I'd probably do the same thing that Dan Agnew and the others do  :twocents:

Not hunting just a cash exchange!!! :whoo:
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need one and not have it.                                                                             Local 66 sheetmetal workers

Remember guys, theWDFW raffle draw tag for elk (west and east) allows you the same hunt (any weapon in any open unit) for a $6 chance!  I know the guy who drew the westside elk tag five years ago or so, took a nice 6x6 in the margaret backcountry with a rifle in September. passed on a 7x7 in toledo earlier.

Alright, let's get back to the post....

we got a couple tags in camp this year and we'll be trying to beat the gov tag to a couple bulls.

Not sure who bought the tag this year but I heard that he'll be near us. You better get in shape mr Mykiss, and make sure you pick up a couple more half gallons of Pendleton :chuckle:
I am sure he will show up in a HUMMER !!!! :chuckle: :chuckle:

I really care less how much you wanna spend on a tag. Or what it gives you, I put in for draws and raffles as well in the hopes of one day getting a "dream" hunt.

I also understand that it is a revenue generator for the state and MAY benefit those specific species.

I guess what gets under my skin a bit, is that these tags have a conservation label attached to them. I would rather they just call it what it is, a rich guy buying his way to a state record or near state record. Really if Agnew was concerned with conservation, I KNOW he could put his money to better use than giving it to the WDFW to do as they see fit. And then dropping god knows amount on guides, private access etc... .

Im sure the money could be put to better use, and he could still go on a killer hunt anywhere and kill a great bull.

My prediction is he will soon hold the state record for cascade roosevelt as well. Why do you think the high lakes in margarete are locked down?

In the end to each his own, on how they want to hunt, and how much money they spend. Just dont hide behind the skirts of conservation to try to disguise the truth.

I would hope that if the day were to come when I had that much money to blow, I would not cheapen the life of a majestic animal by killing him instead of hunting him. And would look at ways to improve the lives of the animals I hunt, my fellow hunters, and my kids as well.
