question regarding gunsmith

I dropped my sendero 300 rum off at a gunsmith on june 13 to have a brake installed and he said 3weeks. I gave him 4 then called and emailed and he said 2-3 more weeks. It has been 7 weeks now and still no brake. I can't even get Ahold of him trying daily phone calls and emails. Should I go there and get my gun and take to somewhere else? I need to get it and sight it in before hunting season. What would you do?

I had a deal like this with Kesselrings ( think thats how you spell it) . I had a brake put on a rifle back a few years ago, same hting promised on one date but didn't get it back until a month after the said date..

To say Iwas pissed is an understatement. I will never do buisness there ever again.

Now you got a couple of choices, Do they do good work? And if so can you afford the time?  Other wise go pick it up and take it elsewhere.. Problem you are gonna run into is this late in the year they will be fairly busy anywhere you take it....

The smith I took it to came highly recommended by numerous people on this site and elsewhere. I already called another smith who said 2 weeks max. I need it done before September. I start bowhunting then and wont have too much range time after that.

Sounds like I might go pick it up and explain to him that you needed it done and it was not done. So now you are going to take it elsewhere.. 

I have foud through the years that a good gunsmith is awful handy to have around, so when I find a good one I keep them busy...

If the guy won't answer calls or emails, I'd be knocking on his door, especially if it was my Sendero. That sucks. I would definitely be at his door.
I had a brake installed and it took about a week and a half.

i dont know where you are located but i would get my gun back quickly, and tell him his business isnt to damn good, i have went to the marksmans club and frontier guns and have had very good luck, thanks for the reminder i gotta get my sons rifle fixed thank you again damn i have forgot all about it

did you take it to Shawn Carlock at Defensive Edge or someone else?

I'd go get it before it is gone. Take it somewhere else and be up front that you have been recently burned and are not willing to jack around.

The gun smith i use tells me when the parts get in, or if there are any hiccups... problems require more communication not less.

Well. Ibpicked it up andI took to mountain shadow arms in Spokane. He might have it done tomorrow. I hope so.

picked my rifle up from Shadow Mountain Arms a couple hours ago. one day turn around. i am very happy with the service there.
now just need to do some shooting!

Soundsl ike you made the right decision.

If i may ask what brake did you put on it, I also havea 300 RUM  and was wondering about them. Cost and such.

Man I bet that thing is gonna be loud...

I went with the defensive edge brake. I don't like radials... after tax was 270. A bit more than other smiths but it was done overnight.
