Never been there but put in for it like everyone else in the state.  Just curious on what size of bucks people are getting when they get drawn.

I don't have any pics but I've seen some really pics of some really nice ones. A couple of them that the guys told the dimentions on wer 25" and 27" wide and they were tall also. Both of those guys came in from the north off of I-90 but i've talke to guys at Mar Don resort on that have gone in by boat from the south and seen lots of nice bucks also. I think the main trick is getting drawn. I hate those odds.  :bash:

I drew the archery tag in 2006.  Killed a 3x5.  He was 23 wide and just a shade over 19 tall.  He was a nice buck.   I looked at many different bucks and felt that I took the right one.  He had 6" bottoms.

I have been out on the desert unit a lot looking for sheds, coyotes, or hiking around or canoeing, and one of my most memorable moments was last August or September when my friend and I walked about 10 minutes from the pickup when we saw about 7 deer, all bucks, in a big group under a tree in the middle of nowhere. they were probably less than a half-mile from Dodson Rd (the North-South road that splits the unit in half (or so)). We went into stalk mode and got about 150 yards away in some fairly tall grass before they got worried and moved off.

But the important part of my story here is that they were all nice bucks, and two or three were absolutely huge (by my standards). Another thing I've noticed is that I've never been on the unit and not seen at least one deer. It also has always seemed fairly easy to sneak up on them. My overall opinion, although I've never hunted it, would be that anybody that draws the desert is probably going to get a real nice deer.

High quantity of 18-20" 3-4 points. But the quality is really lacking more and more every year seems like. The youth need to smoke about 10-15 of those big 3 points every year. I think it would help. My  :twocents:
I live here and it has been recently bumped off of my top 4 draw selections.

I've never seen pics of a buck out the desert that makes it so desirable, equally good if not better bucks could be taken in most any of the other late mule deer draw areas.  its overrated in my opinion.

So now that everyone has their top 4 put in what areas did people apply for?
