UPDATED:No Elk Season For Me. GOING ELK HUNTING :)
« on: August 02, 2011, 09:47:16 PM »
Well it is official.  Because of a bunch of bad weather days our my graduation date for the Apache has been moved from August 25th to September 8th.   :bash:   Which means I will once again miss elk season.  My brother and I had planned on spending 9 days in a Wilderness area hunting elk with our bows.  It would have been awsome.  Now my brother is out a hunting partner and I dont' get to go period.   :cryriver:  My only chance of hunting elk is if the WDFW will let me change my bow tag to a muzzle loader tag.  But...  I applied for special permits so I doubt that will happen.   :dunno:

It sucks but it is what it is.  Part of being in the military I guess.  Hopefully I'll be able to go next year because in 2013 I'll be doing a very different type of hunting in Afghanistan.    :) :) :)

Hey I did get my tag changed once, back in college.  I went right to the region director in person and told my story.  I had to sign a affidavit or something but it can happen.  Phone calls and emails won't work, go in person.  Good Luck and yes I also had applied for special permits.

Tell me who to email and I'll send them something telling them to let you change it.
Maybe we all could?

There ought to be exceptions for guys like you in the military.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear that man but hey like jackmaster said, maybe you can get something in overseas. What would a 30mm cannon do to a sheep? :o

Thanks for the support everyone.  It does suck but I chose this life so and this career so this is just part of it.  I will still get to hunt deer in upstate NY which is where I will be stationed.  Unfortunately I can't go in person because I live in AL and am moving to NY.  I feel worse for my brother than I do myself, since I am his only hunting partner.  (The only one dumb enough to go into the back country I guess) so now he has to go alone.  I feel like I betrayed him or something.  Even though I know he doesn't blame me and it couldn't be helped and its noones fault.  I still feel bad.  I'll try and do the email/phone call thing and see what I can get done.

As for the late season my Brother and Dad will be in Montana hunting deer so I wouldn't be able to hunt with them.  I want to try and switch my tag to a Muzzy tag since that is what my Dad hunts with.  Again thanks for the advice and support.

Does this answer your question  :chuckle:

That was going to be my comment as well.  I had a Sgt go in his uniform when he was in a custody battle and she just portrayed him as a nothing and nobody, but when he showed up with our 1st Sgt in uniform defending him showing that he was an outstanding Marine and father, guess who won?!?!?!?

You might not be able to show up in person but maybe a letter from you explaining your situation and that should be able to get you somewhere and don't blame yourself.  If your brother is anything like my family then he is proud and happy to call you brother regardless of the situation.  I'm sure he's back home right now bragging about how is brother is graduating chopper school and is going to be a bada$$ Apache Pilot giving it to them terrorists!!!!!!  Keep your head up and think positive brother!
If you can read thank a teacher, If you can read in English thank a Marine!
Not as Lean, Just as Mean, Still a Marine!

What am I missing?  You graduate on Sept 8th but the season runs until Sept 21?  Does graduation last the entire season or do you have to report to NY directly after?

I don't have to report to Ft. Drum until October 8th.  But....  I have to move my wife and kids from AL to NY and move our furniture into our house before I can leave.  I don't have to unpack but it would be pretty messed up to expect my wife to move our 2 kids, 3 dogs and our house up to NY by herself.

Wow, looks like it field dresses as well

Yep they even come pre-quartered and everything.   :yike:    Okay that might have been a little bit wrong.  Funny.... but wrong. :chuckle:

Given you only have a month to move it makes more sense.  There will be many elk seasons in your future.

SWEET I am gonna make elk season after all.  It may be crazy but I graduate Sept 8. I'll drive to NY and arrive late on the 11th.  Will unpack the big stuff on the 12th and am then gonna catch a flight to WA early on the 13th. My brother is gonna leave the highcountry to pick me up at SEA-TAC at 3PM and then were going strait to a wilderness area to chase elk until the 18th. Then Im gonna go East to do some spot and stalk Muley hunting with my Dad. (Although he will not be hunting).  So Im pretty stoked about that.  Not really sure where Im gonna hunt deer since I wont have time to talk to landowners but  :dunno: Ill be out West hunting. CANT WAIT.

I got some awsome Thermal footage tonite while flying of about 12 really nice bucks on the range. Theyre VERY lucky Im so lawabiding because I had 360 rounds of 30mm on board
