Can you point me in the right direction?  Everyone that i know cannot go fishing this weekend and my in laws have my kids.  The wife is actually down for going fishing.  I haven't actually fished the skagit before and wouldn't know where to begin.

That's awesome! Thanks for this thread man. I've really enjoyed it. Plus, the smokin' tips! Ima try it!  I'd love to meet up sometime and have ya school me form the bank. My mother in-law lives right on the north side of the Skagit up in concrete. I'd love to learn to fish it.

Good luck on silvers! And don't hesitate to post up about your next venture. Good stuff.

I went up and fished off the bank at Gardner Bar today. We got 3 in 2 1/2 hrs from noon till 2:30. Not hot but definitely a few around. Everyone said it was hot at first light, but that's too early for me to go fish for pinks.

Just got home from Young's Bar in Mt Vernon.
2 days of busy fishing, we brought home 7  :IBCOOL:.  Many were caught, but it is slow.
Saw some sokeye milling around by the bar. Couldnt getem to bite.
The beach is about 1/4 it's normal size.
They did some erosion work, but most of it is underwater.
The exposed beach is prime real estate. Starts filling up at 4am. I got the first fish at 5:01 this mornin. 8)
Lots of skeeters. :'(

Is Blakes resort on the skagit still open?
Looks like someone hijacked their website.

Hi,

Would anyone mind helping a newbie out on how to rig to fish a river for a Humpy?  From the picture it looks like there is a pink jig with a spin and glow above it....  Do you use a leader for this rig?  Would it be pink jig (or pink hootchie), spin and glow on a leader, then some weighted swivel thing, then mainline?  Do you use a float with this or do what I think people call "jigging"?  Just drop it in the water near the shore?

Thanks... as you can see I am not really sure.  :)

I'm a fan of a 1/2 oz bananna weight, like for trolling, with a longish leader to a dick nite. I like the dicknite in chrome, chrome brone, pink, pink white. Pitch it out, let it sink, real in slowly. Also, pink marabou jigs can work well.

I've caught them plunking with spin N glo & sand shrimp, plunking sand shrimp by itself, casting dick nites with slip weights or split shot, jig under float, humpy spoon or wicked willie - but last run I tried using a pink 3" squid (or hoochie) over a 1/4oz or 1/8oz jig head (depending on current) and it worked so good that was all I used all year and limited every time out. Its simple, cheap - and it works. I freaking killed them last year - well last run in 09 - and would catch 4 fish in a half hour, no joke. If I were you I would just use that and some shrimp gel scent. Cast it out and let it sink for a bit, then reel back slowly with a quick flip or two, let it sink, reel, flip, set hook, bonk & bleed - repeat. Or just anchor over a hole if you are in a boat and drop it over the side and reel/flip in slowly. I also used clear UV squids with pink or purple stripe, blue squid, and they all caught fish but the blue seemed a bit slower. That's all I'm using this year unless I go out and everyone else is catching them and I'm not, then I'll think about switching. I use that jig tied right to the main line of 6 or 8# mono on a 6.5 or 7' light rod and have some fun! Good luck man!

P.S. Not sure but I think the pic shows a spin n glo and yarn on a hook with 1 or 2oz bank weight?  - thats what I saw at least?  :dunno:
