I HATE MISSING!
« on: August 06, 2011, 06:41:47 PM »
Been getting trailcam photos of a bear almost every morning at 730 so decided to set up a treestand. The bear has been hitting the orchards across the road from our property at night and then bedding on a thick north slope. Well ol' faithful showed up right on time this morning but came in (unexpectedly) on the downwind side of my stand. It was acting real skittish but after 20 min of stalemate it decided the coast was clear. I came to full draw as it went behind a patch of fir and then it sat down and stared up at me. CRAP, no shot....when it finally cleared the last fir I had been at full draw for almost 5 minutes! I still felt I could make the shot so I let one fly with the bear at 38 yds. WHACK! I hit the stump just under his belly. I have been beating myself up all day! Hopefully I didnt mess up its routine and I get another chance at him. Not a huge bear but still HATE to miss!

Don't beat yourself up too much over it! You will get another chance at him!! After hunting the orchards for the last few years one thing I have found is that they might change the trail they use, the time they come.....but he will still use that orchard.....
I missed one 2 years ago with a rifle....it took him a week but he went right back to the same pattern he was using before......Hang in there....you will get him!

Happens to everyone who spends a lot of time in the woods. I will take a clean miss. Over a bad shot on a animal any day of the week.

I think its harder on the hunter when you miss with a bow compared to a rifle since you are usually closer with the bow but we all miss and it always sucks but I am sure you will get him. It must of been a rush being at full draw that long on a bear.
