Bainbridge Island Hunting
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:56:12 PM »
I'm looking at a move to the area, living on or very close to Bainbridge. I live in Virginia where I regularly hunt turkey, woodies, canada geese, grouse, and dove. I've been looking at the wildlife management areas in the general region and I'm sort of confused on them. Are they open for hunting? Scouting using GoogleMaps has provided me a great deal of information but I can't seem to get my questions answered and I figured I'd ask here before I started calling game wardens.

If it is a WMA/wildlife area, is it open for hunting? In VA they designate the difference between hunting and non-hunting WMA's pretty clearly on the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website, but it seems like when I look at the WDFD site it seems like they don't distinctly designate them as hunting/non areas.

I'm not asking for specific places to hunt, just general information on finding birds in the area.

What sort of a drive am I looking at for getting into some wingshooting?

Are opportunities in the NW area of the state fairly plentiful or am I looking at duking it out to get my boots on the ground earlier than anyone else to find the birds?

For what it is worth, I am especially interested in waterfowl and other birds like grouse, chukar, snipe, pheasants, and dove. Turkeys are definitely secondary for me; upland and ducks/geese are my main interests.

Any help would be appreciated, fellas.
