Heading out
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:24:07 PM »
Leaving tomorrow for a pack in trip.  We are heading to the Pasayten for some deer scouting and hope to see some bear.  We dont have horses or mules so I had a talk with my boots last night and fed them well, they should be ready.    A safe trip over all is the goal.  Anybody have a berry elevation up there with the warmer weather?

Good luck.  I went high buck there last year.  Hope to do it again this year.  Beautiful country.  I saw a lot of bear sign there, not much deer.

Back with a sore body.  We headed in to the Pasayten with the idea of hiking to a lake on the map that we had heard of.  The report was good buck hunting but verry difficult to get to.  Well let me tell ya what , MOTHER FROGGER!!!  It was!  The guys with the report had a outfitter drop them off and said it was scarry .  Our thinking was we could do it on foot.  7 miles in we headed up the trail to the lake.  The blowdowns were outrageous with a 50lb pack on, and the trail vanished.  I had the bearing and we beat the brush up hill for another half mile.  Still 1.5 miles from the lake and seeing no berrys or sign at our elevation , it became obvious this was not going to be worth it. We hiked back to the truck and crashed out.  Hunted this am on another ridge but with the pains from Friday there was no major miles put on.  Good times, good picts, bad spot.
