I started out the weekend on a tuna charter out of Illwaco. I had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, so I was way excited to say the least. To our dismay the weather was crappy so going over the bar was enough to make my GF, Tami sick. Not long after that a couple other people started chumming, I never got sick, but at times I was close. That was the roughest trip I've ever been on. Fishing was slooooow, only 1 fish in the boat after 7 hours. Then we got into a school about 4:30 in the afternoon and we got 3 more, including this 37lb pig that Tami hooked and fought for 20 mins. Then she hands the rod to me and I fight it about 10 mins. What a strong fish. So out of 7 people we got 4 fish. We got 2 of them but only brought home the big guy. The other peeps split the remaining 3.
Sunday we got up and headed out in the fog to the shipwreck and promptly killed 4 pinks. Then we headed over to Pt no Pt for the low tide change and got this nice 10+lb silver, a 5 lb silver and another pink. Then I got a tangle in my downrigger cable and while trying to fix it hit the switch and almost lost a finger. That was the end of our fishing day. Luckily Tami is a nurse, so it was off for a good cleaning and some steri-stitches. Be careful out there, we all get in a hurry sometimes but by simply unplugging the rigger, I would have saved myself a lot of discomfort. Good fishing to you all.
