So how did people do?  I went scouting for elk and the indian's had their nets in so the lower part of the river was closed.   They will be netting tomorrow.  Is it worth going down tomorrow evening?

Someone made a joke down there about flossing.  I typically use about 4 feet of leader.  But some folks I saw with 11 feet of leader some with 7 feet and lots with 6.  I will head down tonight to see what I can do.  I need to catch a few to get my smoker going.  I need some more eggs to cure for steelhead.

Flossing is a term for fishing with a looong leader. The trick is getting a good drift between your weight and lure. If you are fishing with corky/yarn, dick nite..that kind of thing. The leader basically gets between the jaws bringing the lure into the mouth, usually right in the corner. It is perfectly legal and ethical to hook a fish this way the mouth. My issue at times is when you see somebody fishing in this manner and putting a big jerking sweep into the rod. The end result is usually a snagged fish..different story. There ar some, but only a few, areas in the states where fishing for steelhead/salmon in this manner is prohibited. However, since WA has no leader length restrictions it is up to the fisherman to drift fish ethically or be a snagger. Big difference between the two.

*note* im a flosser and im damn good at it  :chuckle:

BUT

i wouldnt go so far to say its "perfectly legal"......flossing is actually not legal and is a form of snagging. the game wardens let it slide by because fish are hooked in the "mouth". when actually 90% of the time they are actually hooked outside corner of the mouth. basically from the outside in

fish that do not willingly bite your bait/lure weather "flossed" or not really are not legal.

that is the reason why the skok and samish now have a "inside the mouth" rule. because flossing/snagging is so bad.
