Kids in Blinds

So for saturday i'm going to have my 4 year old daughter in the blind with me  .  i've got my iphone with games on it to keep her busy, and we've been working on talking in whispers.  should be interesting!  got a 3x4 coming to the cam every day around 7pm, so we should have some luck!    I've got two camp chairs with extra cushions for comfort and a footstool/ice chest with snacks and water.  anything else you think i need? 

she's really excited  and when we go through the game cam pics, she always wants to count points to see if the deer are legal (117 4pt min).  i think we're gonna have a GREAT time!  gonna head in and sit around 4:30, or maybe a little earlier since it wont be so hot.

an extra jacket to make a pillow i always took my son at that age to and whenever we sat down to watch a clearing after an hour or so little dude would fall asleep oh and bring the ear phones for the smart phone that way the deer dont hear it, good luck hope you get one for the little lady so she cant count some real points

I bring an extra set of bino's for mine to help keep them involved.  And I second the bathroom plan.

I do not know about girls but little boys seem to really enjoy pee'ing (Marking) out side.

i forgot about peein!    maybe a corner in the blind?  the deer come in from all angles

she's got her pink binos and full camo, so she feels pretty involved so far!

Whenever I notice my youngest (5) starting to get bored and fidget I just start in with "did you hear that"....."sounded like something big".....   It gets their mind focused on paying attention because they are curious/fearfull of the unknown. You have to be carefull you don't cross the line and make them actually scared of the woods but a subtle hint that there could be something coming by at any time and to stay alert. I usually get about another 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of bug eyed, ears perked attention before his mind starts to drift off again. Usually that buys enough time to see some kind of game while he is alert.

i phone i love it this weekend when i take my 5 and 7 yr old boys ill use that one! and the did you hear that?! haha lol they already love the binos and they gotta range every doe  both of em lol

The other thing i did is bought him a little upland game vest with alot orange on, and put a little whistle in a lanyard on it for him just in case.  In a blind not such a big deal but on the way there or out, especially if you are packing out a deer it doesn't hurt to take the extra precaution to make sure that you can see them, or God forbid they wonder off in a moment of distraction the whistle will make it much easier to get to them.

Give her your camera or show her how to use the one on the iphone, she can record the hunt and will have great pics to look back on in the future.

The bathroom point is a good one, definitely easier for little boys.

My little guy was hunting with my wife a couple years ago and was thrilled when he was the first one to spot the buck she got.  Hard to keep him quiet though with his excitement.   "There's a deer, there's a deer, there's a deer, there's a deer", and apparently on and on....

Sounds like you got a good plan I am just waiting for my little girl to get a little older for that myself she's only 2. For the peeing thing do you have a training potty, you could bring that.

My 5 year old has become pretty good at squatting and peeing in the woods. She's been doing it for a couple years now. Practice makes perfect.

Sounds like fun I took my middle boy he's 5 out with me this year to sit in the stand then a little spot and stalk. Saw a few deer but no real shooters. When we came home my 2 youngest (5, and 4) made a tree stand up in our yard then made a fake trail cam out of a block of wood and spray painted it camo.  Then took apples out of the fridge placed them below the tree and started buggling for elk.  (we live in a neighborhood)   I love my 3 boys.  Can't wait to see them tag their first animals some day.

Day one, no shooters.  kid did great.     2 spikes and 10 or so does/fawns.  maybe tomorrow!
