Lots of good ones out there.  I wouldn't buy one without color. It is just too nice.  Lowrance and humminbird have some nice units.  How much $ you looking to spend?

I just installed a Humminbird 958c, i chose not to have the down or side imiging cause its only usefull in calm water. It has a gps in it which i think is a must. This unit may be a bit much for him but it really rocks especially with the Navionics chip, now if i could get it to catch fish id be really happy!
