I forgot to add Bowhunter45 that 95% of the dogs I kill are called in.  That's where the fun is.

I vote for a November start.

Modern firearm deer season will be over and we don't have to be out there trying to call with 1000 people out there shooting at everything that moves, it just makes for spooky dogs during deer season. Plus the pelts will be better for those that want fur.

OOO!  I forgot about all those guys that go to Walmart and get a .30-06 and a hunting license, and think eveything that moves in the brush is a deer!  Maybe November would be better.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Perhaps you have not seen the truck loads of hunter (???) driving around in the wheat fields shooting at every deer and coyote they see while out drinking and hunting. It gets pretty scary and very crazy when those knuckleheads are out there. I was amazed at the sportsmanship (?) those guys. I have and it ain't pretty.

How many of you modern firearm hunters pass on a yotes while you are after deer?  :dunno: I will admit that I generally will take a dog or two during the modern firearm season, unless I am hot on a good buck.  I always spend the remainder of my vacation chasing dogs after my deer has been harvested...

The last time I hunted the modern season, early '70s, I think, I was glad to get back to the truck alive.  I was walking along a hillside and heard bullets flying above my head.  I ducked into an island of brush and trees and hunkered down near a tree.  A little doe came running down the hill and into the brush I was in and layed down about 30 feet away from me.  3 hunters(?) came down the hill and one of them said "I saw it go this way!" and then they went down over the hill.  I looked over at the doe, she saw me, and jumped up, turned and ran back the way she came.  I got up and went back to my truck and went home.  It was a Bucks Only area.

I passed up shooting at coyotes a few times while hunting modern season.  I wouldn't now, but then I don't deer hunt the modern rifle season any more.

Ah...I guess the world doesn't revolve around El Gringo.....This would be my third "non-event"  :chuckle:

Either way, the dogs are going to take a pounding this year.  Contest or no contest.
