This is a prime example of how the tax-and-spenders get their finances. if you have something they can take away, you have no alternative but to pay their bribery demands. How many drug dealers pay for permits--and they make Millions! So they catch one once in a while, and take his car and gun and drugs, and give him a slap on the wrist. He steals another car and gun and he's right back in business. No permit required! Only honest people have to grab their ankles every time some official needs money.

This is not suprising they are shutting down little kids selling lemonaide with out a permit. Try running a bake sale, Its crazy. I would throw a couple of bucks toward a permit to help out.

I think it's time to bring back the old "Tar and Feathers" treatment. It would do some of these unelected stuffed shirts some good.

There has been some discussion between the Admins & Mods and there are some that believe we don't need a permit and there are some that believe we do.
What it boils down to is how will it harm the business that is HW. If it could harm HW then it needs to be looked at from all angles. Hopefully a decision will be made soon.
Personally, I don't think we need one as long as we don't have prizes or fees. Even the Head & Horns doesn't have a prize. A traveling trophy is not something that is owned or have any monetary value.

This hunting contest law has existed for several years but most people didn't know about it. Only non-profits may apply, but Washington For Wildlife has agreed to sponsor the contests, WFW is a non-profit.
I was suppoed to send in for these permits in August and just have been too busy. I should get some breathing room in a few days and
will try to get these contests all squared away. So I am still planning on holding all the H-W contests. The way the WAC reads any contest involving wildlife must have a permit.
WAC 232-12-169
No agency filings affecting this section since 200
Hunting contests.
A person wishing to hold a hunting contest must comply with the following provisions:
(1) Only organizations filed with the state of Washington as a nonprofit corporation may apply for a hunting contest permit.
(2) Hunting contest permit applications shall be submitted to the department 30 days prior to the date for which the contest is proposed.
(3) Applications must include the permit fee required by RCW 77.32.211. The fee will be returned if the permit is denied.
(4) Contests are restricted to the species approved on the permit.
(5) Total value of prizes per contest shall not exceed $2000.
(6) Entry fees or requests for donations are prohibited.
(7) It is unlawful to fail to comply with the conditions of a hunting contest permit.
Hunting contests which may adversely affect wildlife resources will be denied.

ITs why the Joshua Cup was designed the way it was with out of state critters. It kind of limited the fundraiser/contest a bit, but otherwise we couldn't offer it. If its not Washington wildlife, no problem. I spent lots of time on hold and pushed lots of buttons on the telephone to iron that out. It didn't matter what kind of good cause it was for. They were very apologetic about it as they knew it was for a good cause, but their hands were tied.

After reading the WAC, I still don't see why a permit is necessary. Let's just not call it a contest.
It really isn't anyway, correct? No prize, no contest. It's just keeping score. It's no different than a group of friends keeping track of who kills the most game, or catches the most fish during a particular season. This just happens to be on the internet where everyone can see it.
Oh well, I guess the money's going to a good cause, right? (the management of Washington's wildlife)

It's not really an official contest. Just a bunch of guys that team up to see who gets more kills. On a species that ranchers have been trying to eradicate for 200 years, and have made no dent in the populations.

I agree. It is for bragging rights only with no official score kept.
No prizes,
No entry fee,
No donations
=
No contest if you ask me.
