where to look
« on: September 17, 2011, 07:47:13 PM »
thought i would ask since you all have alot more experience then i do. OK what happened is a poacher came into the area i hunt and killed several elk that was just over 2 weeks ago he had a 4 wheeler and a rifle my question is how far will the remaining elk run and where would they hide? i went about 2 miles from where this happened also went to the deepest darkest woods i could find. i still couldn't find fresh sign and nothing was talking do i need to go farther or just find a new area with it being the last day I'm lost and  :bash:  :bash: :bash:

They are very unpredictable. They still could be in the same area, or they could be in the next gmu  :dunno:

If it were me I would start my looking in the next drainage over if it looked like suitable habitat.....they can get pushed a county away but usually they have fairly regular routes and hiding places to hole up when pushed.... good luck and I agree get a poacher tag

thank you ill bike in on the next road and work my way down from there. as far as the poacher he's lucky to be alive. i kinda know the officer that caught him and the guy came at the officer with his rifle drawn ready to shot. the officer also hunts the same area and he was pi**ed even a week and a half after wards when he was telling us about it

You don't need a tag for poachers  :chuckle:
