big kitty
« on: September 15, 2011, 11:46:45 AM »
Slowly my spot has become less and less active.. til today there was absolutely nothing in the woods. Not even the birds. I think it might have something to do with the cougar that jumped on the trail 35 yards in front of me.. just didn't have time to get a shot.. :/ now I have no idea what to do with what's left of my season

Up here in the northeast corner cats are all to common. So far this season I know of four cats encountered by archers. I was lucky enough to call in 2 at the same time :yike: while i was working some dark timber looking for elk. Both came in silent and very fast!! The good thing is cougars shouldn't be an issue when the wolves become established. Hunt now soon the only hunting will be predator hunting.

I don't know the first thing about cat hunting  :dunno:

How long do you think it will keep the elk out of the area?
I could imagine needing a new pair of shorts after callin in two at one time..  :yike:

Thats the trick, you don't have to hunt them...they hunt you.

Sneaky little devils, I don't like the kittys very much.

Thanny.

Went back up today and I guess the cat did less damage to my spot then I thought had a bull bugling at me but could only get within 100 yards. The smell of rut was definatly in the air though. Two more days..

Cats can range a good distance, (Good or bad) and it sounds like he may have left for now. We routinely get trail pics. of cats and within the same day sometimes, the prey have returned. Good luck.
