Decisions...Decisions...Decisions...
« on: September 20, 2011, 11:30:38 PM »
So this was after a 2 week soak.  I knew there were a couple bucks around, saw the 3 pt & the 2 pt a few times.  I had the 3 pt at 22 yards one day before he winded me.  Things are looking pretty good, the tough part is that these deer are almost always in the middle of a clover field.  Between that and the direction of the prevailing wind, it'll be interesting.

I had another buck this evening bust me at 10 feet!  He must've been the big brother to the 2x3 with the extra long 3rd tine.  (G2 for those who score 'em?)  I was expecting the deer to pass in front of me from the right to left.  He came in down wind behind me.  I was glassing around and lowered my binocs because the view got fuzzy, when I lowered them the buck was the source of the fuzziness.  I think he was as surprised as I was!  The look on his face was priceless!  It was one of those WTF looks.  It was awesome!

I knew there were a couple of bucks running around this place, but so far I've counted 6 of 'em.  The smallest a 2x2.  Two years ago I shot a 2x4 on this place and last year a button buck I thought was a doe.  Hopefully one of the big one's will slip up soon!

How about setting up in the middle of the field with a gillie suit? Stuff some local vegation in it and you are in stealth mode.

I'm thinking of doing something like that.  There's a patch of taller clover/weeds/grass in the middle of the field that would work as long as I can keep the deer from seeing me draw.
