new to elk hunting looking for info
« on: July 06, 2008, 06:31:33 AM »
Im new to this site and fairly new to WA.  I missed last years season.  I was hoping for some info on public hunting around the Spokane area and some good tips.  I will be bow hunting.  I would appreciate any info since Ive never even seen an elk before.

It is hardcore elk hunting around Spokane meaning unless you are just plain lucky, or really know what you are doing, you probably wo't be very successful.  I would suggest looking a little to the west like Yakima or the Clockum.

The elk are around, but like Bone said, unless you know where or get lucky it is tough.  I have seen one spike over near colville in the last three years.  All alone.  Looked for him again several times, but he just disappeared.  The locals say they are there but few and far between.
Deer and bear over there is another story, and don't forget Turkey.

I'd echo the sentiments already posted.  There are certainly pockets but not what you'd call good numbers.  The Blues down South have better numbers but tag availability, restrictions, etc make it tough down there too.

You might want to consider hunting in Idaho.
