Yakima river.
« on: September 23, 2011, 07:32:37 PM »
So I would have posted pictures of some of the fish ive caught in the last couple of weeks but sadyly i havn't caught anything bigger than bait, im catchink 3-5 fish 2-4 inches long every night.

My question for tonight and it might be a really dumb question. Are there salmon in the yakima up around selah/yakima right now? The reason I ask is because there was a salmon with the steaks cut off of it laying in a pool in the yakima just downstream from the golf course when I was down there a few days ago and that seems to indicate the pressence of salmon but I don't think ive ever heard of anyone catching one this far up? Maybe the run is just small?

ok then, I guess there are a few that make it up this far. I wonder if it was a Yakima tribe member or just a piece of trash that decided he could filet the fish in an area that isn't open for salmon, ohwell.

The dead fish was probably 24-30" hard to tell because it was under water; I am fly fising on a 5 weight rod, it would be interesting if I accidentally hooked into a salmon, I wonder if I would break the rod(if i sound ignorant its because I am, ive fly fished about 10 times so far).

ive been seeing a guy fishing down off rest heaven Rd and near the small island down in between the boat launch and the golf course. I know right at the mouth of the golf course creek(what i call it) there is a lot of carp there that usually go top water crazy about this time of the year. they always surface to get at the cotton that comes off the trees. I think it would be fun to hook up with one with a fly rod.  :dunno: I bow fish there and shot a 15lbs one. about a month ago

Thats me, I have been down there during the week from around 6 until dark. I got some advice at a fly shop that I am probably going to try out tomarrow night and see if I can catch some bigger fish. I'll most likely be down there from 5:30 til dark tomarrow. I'd love to hook into a big one, I have caught a couple 6" trout and I think the current fights harder than the 6 inchers. A carp would be great to hook into.
