Poaching is horrible up there. Once saw four fresh bull skulls with antlers cut off on the side of the logging road, before the season. Not to mention it is the shooting range for all of pierce county.

:yeah: I heard of a bunch of people that go spot lighting out there as well. Ive hunted it alot just because it was close to my house at the time. Just get in behind those blue gates as far as you can is my only advice

the only problem with elbe hills now is there is only a small piece gated off from elbe town to the top 1.8 past the camp ground at the 1270 rd to the east is the other gate. well just before you get to elbe town there is a farm with a couple houses on it, well either they let or themselves in on quads there are a few quad trails that come up the south west face and come in just above the pidgeon rd, well these *censored*s are in there all the time on their quads when the gates are closed, my dad grew up in those hills thus i grew up in those hills, i loved it up there but now it doesnt seem like the state or game department gives a crap about what is going on up there and its a fricken shame, there use to be real good deer numbers and a few elk but not so much now.. my hope is they get serious and police call elbe hills, it would be sweet if they closed it off in ashford and closed the orv trails and then shut it off at the end of scott turner like it use to be. i know it wasnt closed in ashford but it was at the end of scott turner . the gate is still there all they would have to do is put one in at ashford just past the storage yard.

Yeah there ya go just close it all down to everyone but hunters  :bash: So your gonna advocate closing one of the few ORV locations in this area? Have you seen the amount of rigs that go there?

I can tell you that if you do not get off the roads you will not see a single elk.  Be careful of the land you travel by foot on.

yeah ive seen the amount of rigs that go in there, have you seen the mess a bunch of weekend jeepers leave behind after a hard weekend of drinkn and 4wheeln, i have, i know a few of you clean up your mess but not many, have you seen how destroyed the campground is, you know the one the covered area with 2 fire places. ok do this then so it dont piss off the JEEPERS, close the rd just north west of the of the campground that way everything to the north east and the north and south east will still be open to the jeepers, i will tell you this though and sorry if it hurts the jeepers feelings but elbe hills was a damn nice place to be before it got turned into a huge orv park, i grew up up there, spent every waking minute of my youth up there with my hounds ,huntn deer ,elk, bear and what ever else was legal, and i am sad to say that it has become a mess on the ashford side especially...

You cannot just blame the jeepers.  As a teenager we use to have good christian party at that site.  I am sure they do the same today.   :dunno:

My ilk.ion is if the a place is getting trashed and private jeep and otc clubs won't clean it then close the access to motorized traffic. If a privelage gets abused then the abusers have no one to blame but themselves.  Many don't trash places but enough people do that gives us all a bad name.  I wish road violations and littering etc carried a much stiffer fine.

i aint just blaming the jeepers dude, but they are a big part of it, and who didnt party up there as a kid, i did but i promise you this i cleaned it up the next day, i was always taught to leave it cleaner than i found it, which i am sad to say that the major users of the camp ground DO NOT DO.

hmm so be cause of a few bad apples then it should be closed? First off Most campers/wheels etc do clean up after themselves, but I will give you that not all do. It's the jeep clubs that maintain the trails including scheduled weekends to do clean ups All the trails are marked, there are minimal areas to wheel, You can't go into the snowpark or towards Scott Tuner unless it's a planned poker run, It's all road any how - most wheelers don't find it fun to just run up and down a gravel road. It's also patrolled by DNR, there is a very nice lady that does it all the time and has no issues with kicking someone out if needed. Could it be that because of all the closures for ORV/ATV that the ones still open will be overrun with more people. Kinda like when they shut down hunting areas. Maybe I see it differently than you do, everyone we camp/wheel with take out more trash then they bring in. We abide by the limited trail system it is not huge all of the trails are off the 9 road with only one that can be accessed from either the trail system or just after the Y for the the campground on the 92. The only place I agree with you to shut down is the dump of the target practice corner. It's horrible and I will guarantee that there are more people not cleaning up after themselves than up in the ORV park

i will agree with you on the target pit thats for sure, then maybe they could close the rd at the painted rock that way it would affect any of the orv trails and would create alot of walk in only and close it off at the state gate on the scott turner side you would still be able to come in on the ashford side, but when it comes to the animals disapearing up there it the atv riders that come in from holiday hills and those farms before elbe town, anyone that knows that place as well as do knows that there is alot of night hunting going on in november up in there, and its a shame because it isnt like there was a major amount of deer and elk in there to begin with

There is no dening that the place looks like a dump. I have no idea who is doing it but if it isn't stopped it will be closed eventually and you cant really blame them.

thats another part that i agree with you 100%, i honestly dont know why they havent yet, especially with all these budget cuts, its easier for them to maintain land that is locked thats for sure and it doesnt cost as much

yesterday was the first time ive been up there in a year or so, it appears to be changed a bit. i ran into 3 different dnr agents askin to see my pass and a whole section of road was blocked off and rerouted. looks like they also might be redoing the "shooting range" or maybe even filling it in im not sure. seems to be alot better than it use to be tho, there isint trash all over the roads and i only saw one other person up there. i remember back in the highschool days i could go up there any day of the week and there would be a rig haulin ass around ever corner. kinda depressing they shut off a few roads tho, broke my ankle up one and the other had a beautiful view of the mtn... if ya hear from the elk herd let me know i heard a few herds have been spotted down towards kaposin...
