Nemah "Williams Creek GMU 673"

I have hunted the Nemah area with my father for the last 25 years. He has hunted it for close to 50 years. I am wondering if anybody can tell me where some elk are at? I have been down there several times since July. Last week I blew a bugle, got in the truck a few minutes later, and right around the corner I kicked up 6 cows. I'm guessing they were laying in the clear cut and I spooked them up with the bugle.
Last year I scounted like crazy and located 5 legal bulls. The only problem was on opening day we counted 21 seperate vehicles, who knew the elk were there. They shot 3 out of the 5 bulls and that was moreless the start and end of our season. My dad got alot of elk down there with his buddies in the 80's. Myself; I have never got an elk down there. My dad is 66, so he cannot hunt like he did in the 80's. My dream is for him to get a big branched antler bull before he turns in his hunting boots. I will be leaving tomorrow morning to setup a trail cam and do the usual scounting. Any help would be appreciated.

Not trying to be a smart-ace but if you have 25 years of experience of knowledge in that area I really do not think you need much help.  The elk tend to hold up in the same drainages year after year so you should do just fine.

We hunted that area quite a bit during archery season.  The elk were all over the place.  Not meaning there was an elk on every hillside or drainage, but we'd see them all over the unit, not just in one particular spot.  They like the thick stuff though.

Good luck on finding 'em.  I personally saw 3, and heard of 2 more 5x5 bulls that were killed during archery season.

Right 25 years I get it, but if you read my post I was asking if anybody knew of any elk herds this year. I mentioned I was having trouble this year seeing elk. Granite they are in the same spots they are every year (thick brush) along the rivers etc. I was hoping somebody that was an Archery or Muzzloader hunter would give up a few areas where they got into the elk. My father is 66 so I need to find them in a clear cut or some easy walking timber. He cannot huff and puff up and down hills like he could 15 years ago. Im leaving in a few hours, so hopefully my luck will change.

If someone posts up the location of the elk you are seeking, it will be a repeat of your experience last year? 21 other vehicles?

Hey Maximus, I think its absolutely great that you are trying to do something for your old man before he quits hunting.  Sounds to me like you are trying to do something good in return for the good things he did for you.  That is awesome!

Dont listen to the smart azz comments and folks that are giving you a bad time. 

As for the remarks posted, he said he has hunted there for 25 years and has been scouting in the area but hasnt found them where he has before.  All it looks like he is doing is asking anyone else in the area if they have been seeing any elk because he hasnt, I dont see the harm in that.  Its not a new area that he is going in to blind.  He has done what you all want when people ask for help....which is scout and do his homework.  They have come up fruitless so he is checking if any of the archery guys or anyone else has any information that will help him with his scouting.  I wish I knew the area.  I would help you out in a second, but I have only been in that unit a couple of times and not recently.

Good luck to you and your pops Maximus!  Keep on it and dont get bothered by any of the comments that people are posting.

PS to the smart azz crowd- I hope that any of your kids are willing to do everything they can to get you one more good hunt in before you get too old to get after it like you can now.

I just want in on these easy to hunt elk spots. If anyone can give me such a spot, I will take my 60 year old uncle who is disabled due to a stroke he had a few years ago, AND he has never killed a bull elk. I really would like for him to get his first, and probably last, trophy elk.

Bronson... if you are referring to me, then I guess I'm a little confused    I was being completley honest.  With all of the years that I have experience in that area, I go back to the same drainages and hunt the same way and seem to do just fine....  Not sure why your so bent out of shape

Bobcat, it wasnt pointed directly at you and you werent what sparked my response.  It was just a general comment covering all.  But I wont lie, yours did sound a bit smart azz.  I am not here to pick a fight or start anything, I was just trying to stick up for a member who is trying to do something good and was getting negative feedback.  This subject strikes a bit of a chord with me as I am dealing with a similar situation with my 76 year old dad that slows down a bit every year.

Rose, it wasnt aimed at yours at all.  I was not bent out of shape, just trying to keep things positive for a guy who is trying to do something for his old man and wanting to compare notes with his findings.

Yes, the uncle part was true and I'll probably try taking him out a couple days for elk this year. I know some easy spots to hunt, the only problem is, there's no elk there.

Wow! This was my first time on this site. I thought I would simply reach out to some of the die hard Archery and Muzzleloader hunters to see if they would give up a few spots, which they had gotten in to the elk. I know the area, and I know where the elk tend to be at year after year. I simply thought I would ask. When I read through this site, I noticed alot of people were asking the same questions. Usually starting with "I have never hunted XYZ area, but I drew a special hunt permit". "Where do I go to find animals?" Most everyone replied positively and were giving SUPRISINGLY specific roads, areas, etc. to hunt. Since I had not seen anything promissing I thought I would reach out and try and narrow my search.
And for all the smart ass people- I understand how you might intrpret it as a stupid question, but understand that if you replied with an area that was not suitable for an older hunter (66 year old) because I did not give you specifics, then you are wasting your time. You can't tell me that their are not easier areas to hunt than others, which you can still be successful. I'm simply trying to narrow my search to an area that is easier to access (hunt) then others, which still has a fair amount of elk in it. Maybe now you will understand.
