Ebey Island etiquette
« on: October 09, 2011, 11:57:49 AM »
I’m driving by E.I. this morning at 7:22am and I see 10 to 12 orange clad folks with their dogs halfway across the field.  I’ve only hunted there once in the afternoon but what’s with everyone in the field before 8:00am?

IMO its to small of an area for the number of hunters that use it.

This happened a lot last year as well. One thing is that the line to hunt (signs), is about 300-400 yards south from the bridge. So I get why guys are lined up there. But, the guys that go the end almost or all the way to the canal crossing to hit the backside I think is a bit silly. Just like it is at Cherry Valley, Scatter Creek, etc. line up with everyone else and proceed through.

It is the same way at the Dungeness Release site.  Guys go out and find a bird early and hold their dogs.  Then at 8 they release the dog to flush the bird and commence shooting.  You see them standing in one area just waiting, with the dog going nuts.  Their claim is you can't shoot until 8, but the gate is physically shut until then.

It is a small place for as many hunters out there, i was there at about 7:55 am and heard shooting right at 8, I always thought you couldnt go out into the field until 8 too, so it was surprising.

I went there one time a couple years ago...  I walked to the end if the road with my dog on leash.  I stood there until just after 8am wondering what I had got myself into.... about 10 after, the hunters had headed in far enough, I let my dog off leash and started heading back to the car.

I didn't like that place much.
