Fossil Crk / Salmon Crk Permit Holders
« on: October 13, 2011, 03:25:01 PM »
Did anyone do any good in there this early season.

I heard it was a zoo b/c they allowed motor vehicle access if you had a permit and everyone was driving the roads like crazy.

Interested to hear from anyone who was in there.

I work there and talked to one guy who took a nice mature bull that was messed up on one side, he was a 4x6, his brother took a raghorn 4pt, and some other group stuck and lost a couple.  That was all I heard about.  I didn't see too many bowhunters, I think most of the purchasers are rifle hunters.  This was all from the Fossil block, I didn't hear anything from Salmon Creek.

I'm suprised no bowhunters on this site bought the permit. I would have gladly paid to purchase it had the area still be gated off but to have every permit holder running rigs all over hell and back no thanks.

I will just get sick if the trend for the timber companies is to sell these permits. I understand Rayonier made about $70K off of the permits between the two areas. After they pay all the fees to patrol the area and generate the tags etc, etc I just dont see how they can be making enough money to make it worth their while.

I'm going to have to start scouting again in May to try and find a couple new areas, we were crippled this early season with the fossil crk going to permit access then the fire closures.

I talked to a guy who purchsed the permit and hunted it one day during archery. He said he and "several" friends bought it. Apparently they were camped in there and he couldnt due to wrk conflicts. Said they killed one raghorn 4pt.
