how long to call for yotes with a electronic call?

i have a spitfire im still learning how to call in yotes. i called a bobcat in the first time i used it. i am calling for about twenty minutes with out stopping i think i am over doing it? i think i should limit my calling sequences to about 10 or 15 seconds then wait 2 to 5 minutes. my stands usually last at least a 1/2 hr. i called the bobcat with a lightning jack followed by the end with a screaming rabbit. i ran the call the whole 20 minutes. i think i need to change my strategy and hopefully with a little luck i will get my first yote. ive been useing the lightning jack, some cottontail and pup in distress sounds. not sure which sounds to use for yotes.

Calling is a lot like fishing. You never know what they will bite on. A half hour on a stand is plenty of time. You are lucky, called in a cat the first time? Did you get it?, I am still trying to get one. I have called in many things, but a Bobcat I have yet to.

i could of shot it but i forgot to buy a small game license.
it was cool to see it though it stuck around for about 10 minutes at about 40 or 50 yards. it seemed pretty interested in my call hanging from the tree. it was smelling the call i was thinking it must of smelled my scent on the call. i was calling for yotes as i see them some times. but i see i have some more to learn and with a little luck hopefully i will get one soon. i hunt deer and elk alot and spend alot of my time in the woods. so i would run into yotes every now and then. so i thought it would be fun to hunt them.

If your targeting cats your doing things right
Don't start and stop the caller , especially if you calling thicker stuff , there will be a opportunity for said feline to lose intrest .
There are several diffrent answers to your question
weather, cover and the animal your calling will dictate the answer .
Always start off soft( quiet) , you never know when one is close by
Build volume during the set and tapper down at end is how i do it .
20 minutes to 30 minutes is fine . Always go with your gut if you feel you need to stay longer do so , if you don't like the set move on .
Most predators will show up in the 3 to 7 minute range .
then you get your slow comers at the 10 to 15 minute range
after that your kinda pissin in the wind , especially in heavier cover as the sound will not permeate out that far and most animals wont cover that much ground out of curiosity .
good luck , and keep at it . Jerry

A lot of it depends on the area for me. WIND AND COVER make up a huge part of how long I stay on stand. If I am hunting yotes most times 20-30mins for a stand. cats and bears I like to stay 45-60mins. I have had cats come in and sit down and watch the area for 30mins before coming in or leaving the area. Most of my yotes I have called in at around 5-10mins. Like said always start soft. Try and think about a prey animals lungs. No jack rabbit can scream for 30 mins strait. I prefer a mouth call over my elec call because I can cut out more smoothly. With a elec call sometimes the notes that it stops on sound like crap and cut out mid sound.

I always call about an hour no matter what Im hunting. Mostly because Im hoping to see a cat. I have had a few coyotes come in at the 30-35 minute mark. I hunt some pretty heavy stuff though.

I usually run an electronic call 5-7 minutes, maybe 10', then stop for 3-4'. Mouth calls I cant call for that long so maybe 2-3' on, 2-3' off. But I have had 4 or 5 coyotes come in well after the 30' mark and a couple after 45' to an hour. So I will try up to an hour in heavier stuff, not quite as long in open areas like over in E. WA. I'm going out to my honey hole this weekend, guess its been pretty active out there. So I hope to at least have some pics of a dead dog and I hope hope HOPE I get a cat!
