Vail Hunters?
« on: October 15, 2011, 07:45:34 PM »
Well, how did you do?  I heard a bunch of shots throughout the day.  Saw a couple of little bucks down at the Quickie mart in Rainer but haven't heard what today's total for the main unit was.

By the way, for those of you who stopped in my driveway looking at my pet elk right at dark this evening, just keep moving on and leave em' alone, there ain't a legal elk in that herd.   :chuckle:

I did notice that there wasn't as many hunters in Rainier during lunch time as usual.  Normally, both Quickie Marts are jam packed from 10:30 am to about noon thrity with hunters fueling up and stocking up on beer, beef jerky and corn dogs.   :chuckle:  I have noyiced that there are fewer rigs driving by before dark but about the normal amount coming out just around dark.   Maybe it seemed like there were more rigs coming out than going in because they were all parked in the road in front of the house staring at my pets.   :chuckle: :dunno:

i was really surprised with how many ppl i saw and im not quite sure if everyone tagged out or what but from 3pm till about 630 we only saw a handful of trucks. but on the way out there seemed to be about the normal crowded to hell intersection by the check point.

Once I got off the main lines there were very few people, I have been hunting vail since the late 60's, there used to be lots more people there, so you guys keep on bad mouthing it, I love it. I saw several deer both days but nothing I'd shoot this early. I am still holding out for at least a nice dark 3 point. saw a small bear too.

Talked to a couple of logger buddies of mine that hunt up there and even they are having a hard time putting a decent rack on anything this year.  They are seeind a ton of does but no shootable bucks.  Usually their whole group is tagged out by the second day with 2 points on up.  It does seem that there are fewer people driving by.

I talked to the game people at the check in. They got 35 out of there yesterday. And when we left at noon because of all the damn fog. They only had four!   Now I'm sitting on some private property hopefully this works better!
