WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!! I just switched to carbon this year. I have been bow hunting 20+years using aluminum arrows and never had this problem. Is this common for carbon arrows to crack and "BLOW UP!" on people? If it is I'm glad I still have 2 dozen xx75 2317's.
It's not a common problem anymore. The early carbon arrows were not as well built so arrows exploding was not totally uncommon. The new carbons are spiral wound, cross-wrapped, dipped in kevlar, and covered in titanium. Ok, maybe not the last couple, but they are very well built now.
The best thing to do is to flex the arrow before you shoot it. Especially if you think you may have hit something other than a soft target. You will be able to hear the crack grinding if it's damaged. Oh, and you can flex carbon arrows quite a bit without damaging them, and you will not affect the straightness of the arrow.
