2011 Mule Deer
« on: October 18, 2011, 03:23:24 PM »
 So not much of a story....... We hunted all morning opening morning and saw a ton of elk but no deer. Very typical of this area. Got back to camp took a nap and woke up two hours later. Decide to take the quads out for a little ride and found a green dot road we hadn't been down so we decided to venture down it. We came out of a heavily forested area into a meadow. There were three deer feeding. It was about an hour before dark. Got off the quad and unhooked my rifle. Shoved two shells in the chamber and laid down at the edge of the road. First buck was a spike, not legal. Second buck was a 2x2, also not legal! The third deer was about 100 yards down hill in the trees. I was certain he was at least a 3x3 but he was staring right at me and I couldn't tell. So I waited for a good 5 minutes in a stare down with this buck. None of them moved. Finally he turned his head a little to the right and I counted 4 points....No hesitation, pulled the trigger. Dropped right there on the spot. As for the other two bucks they just stood there staring at me for a minute. Great feeling to down another buck on opening day. Loaded him up on the quad and headed back to camp in the dark. Hung him and skinned him up by truck headlights with assistance from the quads. Of course we remembered to start the quads to preserve battery. NOT MY TRUCK THOUGH! Had to have it jumped next morning by some good friends in another camp. Thanks again guys for the jump. Great hunt, great camp great company= Successful hunting trip. Elk in two weeks hopefully we will knock em down! And I will post pics as soon as I figure how to make the file smaller.

He ended up being a 4x4 with eye guards so for my sake he was a 5x5. I am a little greedy with points.....
