Wenaha Bear Activity???
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:41:52 PM »
Did some hiking in the East Wenaha on Sunday but couldn't find much for recent activity. I went from the lookout tower over Squaw Peak, South to the confluence and up the West Side Sawtooth ridge and couldn't find much activity at all. Not sure if my legs can take much more of that.  :chuckle:  Need to narrow the search down a little. Any food sources I should be focusing on or elevations to stick to? I don't mind dropping into that hell hole but would like to know what to be focusing on before diving in again. I was leaning towards doing the Mt. Misery Trail from East to West but not sure if that will be any improvement over what I did last week other than it stays on the ridge top longer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here's some pics from last weekend. No bears but a great time in the woods anyways.

The bears we have been seeing are still digging squirrels, look for those big rocks rolled out on top of the ground. Hard to believe they will work so hard for a little red digger.  Location seems to be on rocky slopes, hard to find in the Wenaha right?

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately I didn't get the message before I headed out. Spent most of the day glassing the alder thickets trying to pick one out and didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at the open slopes.  :bash:  Oh well, had another good hike. Put on some miles and took off some weight. Nothing better than the Wenaha workout routine.  :chuckle:

Snow started flying around 8pm up there yesterday.  :IBCOOL:  Can't wait until it gets cold enough to stick.
