What pack do you use for 4-10 day hunts?
« on: July 08, 2007, 12:43:23 PM »
This year I'm trying a combo thing.  I'll use my Blacks-creek Alaskan 4000 total cubic inches. It will be sittin on my Kelty Cashe Hauler.  I'm gonna add the kifaru Gun bearer to this set-up.

I think my packers retired :(  I think he was tired of getting called at two in the morning.  Then I threatened to shoot his mule the last time out. :)

Picked up a Dwight Schue Mega pack 5600ci. It has 2 packs on  an external frame. The first pack is a large fanny pack and the second is a large day pack. Both packs can be taken off so it can be used as a hauler.Once I get packed into camp I remove the large day pack and just use the fanny. I took a canvas game bag and had some straps added to it so when I get something I just roll out the game bag and attach it to the frame the same way the packs connect and load it up, (boned out deer), (Quarter elk, make trips). Loaded up for 5 days it sits at about 45lbs.(Tent,sleeping bag, jetboil stove, water purifier, food and standard stuff)

I got a Badlands 4800 last year.  It sure is comfortable to use and extremely well built.

I have really been looking at the Blacks Creek Canadian. I like the expandable meat compartment. The only thing I am worried about are the shoulder straps and the waistbelt. I have seen other older Blacks Creek packs and they don't look to be as nice as the Badlands packs. Also do they have good venting on your back, I start to sweat just thinking about physical exertion.
