rattleing mule deer
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:14:17 AM »
Anyone ever had luck trying this? I was thinkin that maybe if i spot a buck way out i could try to call him into bow range. Probably a waste of my time but i was just wondering.

Yes it works.   Definatley different than whitetails and certainly more successful if you can see the deer.   Go very light (tips of the antlers) and they will come in (high percentage).   Most people that try it give up do to lack of patience (blind rattling) or they rattle too hard.

Do you use any grunts?

Not for that, I don't.    Most grunt tubes are designed for whitetails.  Muledeer grunts are smother, "less rattle" I guess is the best to describe it.   I use it all the time when I am photographing but only to get them to look at me.   Many of my photos where they are keyed on me or looking at me, its becasue I have grunted.   I purchased a "muledeer" grunt tube but its still not quite natural.
