T7 with musket caps?
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:42:25 AM »
Any of you have experience with using t7 pellets with musket caps or no.11s for the matter? Any reliability issues?

Hodgdon says 209s only.

The new t7 magnum does not list the 209 limit on the website.

Has anyone used that with M Cs or No. 11s?

I am getting ready to work up a load for elk this year in my Remington 700ML and don't want waste money on the pellets if they won't work.

Thanks for any info.

Yes, musket caps and triple 7 do work. Vorderlader-Zundhutchen are suppose to be the best, small round, red plastic container from Germany, all I use. Stick with 100 grn T7 and 348 grn powerbelt and you will nock -em dead! Heard lots of negative crap about powerbelts lately but I have had great luck. Just keep that powder dry, and hit them were you are soppose to.

I believe 209s are recommended for all types of pellets.  I would stick with loose powder.

Have you been able to try the pellets with MCs?

Also, 209's are not legal to hunt with in the state of Washington.

Thanks for the info.   I will try the magnum pellets with the MCs and see how it goes.

I think this is on another thread too, but I had a missfire using 777 pellets and no 11's! I called Hodgson and they said musket caps are fine to use with the pellets but they can't stand behind the reliability of no 11's with the pellets. I only use powder now.

Triple Seven pellets work great with musket caps in my 22" Black Diamond. That was the load the first time I ever fired a front stuffer. Have not had a misfire using that combo yet. Even when carried for days.
